Ken ‘Lucky’ Packer started his calling career in June of 1967, when he attended a caller’s clinic in New Port News, Virginia, while serving in the US Air Force. Since then he has attended two other caller schools in Colorado.
Lucky then returned home from the service, to Utah, in September 1967 and began calling for a square dance club in Kearns, UT.
Lucky was invited to call for a youth group September of 1972 which ran for fifteen years. He began calling for the Jesters Square Dance Club in September 1973 which ran till 1996. He was then invited to call for the Guys and Gals, the summer of 1998 and the Swingin’ Singles in 2000 and is presently calling for both clubs. He also called for the BYU Square Club from 1979 to 1982, when he accepted a dance position for the LDS Church to do the choreography for the dance festival.
Lucky has had the opportunity to call for many anniversary dances and has called in Utah, California, Idaho and Alaska, He also has been invited to call for a Caribbean and Hawaiian Cruise and called in Korea on 3 different occasions. Lucky has called at many National Conventions.
Lucky has been calling for Pioneer Treks, for the LDS Church, for the past 16 years throughout Utah and at Martin’s Cove in Wyoming. He has been invited to call for many of the same church groups, numerous times in a row. He also calls regularly for church, civic and private activities.
